Panama Canal
The Panama Canal is also known as the world’s eighth wonder, and we understand why: this project was one of the most incredible engineering feats in history. Ships no longer have to navigate the mainland but can cut directly through the 77 km-long canals, thus saving a great deal of time and money. If you visit Panama, do not forget to go to the Canal.
Visit Casco Antiguo
The most charming area of Panama City is the Casco Antiguo. It was founded in 1671. While the old town is a mix of ancient ruins and not-so-old architecture, you can still find some impressive buildings that date back to the late 17th century. Today, visitors wander the streets, shop, and capture great photos of this historical oasis.
Independence Square
Plaza de la Independencia is a great place to start your exploration of Casco Viejo. Also called Plaza Mayor or Plaza de la Catedral, the park celebrates Panama declaring its independence from Colombia in November 1903. To one side of the plaza is the imposing Metropolitan Cathedral, dating from 1688. It is home to the Archdiocese of Panama.
